China to claim for democracy

Beijing says Trump is trying to protect the country’s producers. In its two complaints to the World Trade Organization (WTO) on Monday, China requested the United States to compensate for the lost trade value due to the steel tax imposed on President Donald Trump. This tariff is expected to affect US $ 689 million steel and aluminum exports to the US market.

Beijing dismisses the reason “based on national security” Washington put forward, insisting it is a measure to protect domestic producers. If the US opposes this argument, China may request the WTO to mediate in an official dispute.

The same day, the European Commission also launched an investigation to see whether Trump’s decision to impose duties was to drive global shipments to the European Union. The move marked the defensive phase of a three-pronged strategy to protect EU steelmakers from imposing a 25% duty on steel, 10% on aluminum imports into the United States, announced by Trump on March 8.
